Transforming from an anxious attendee to a confident networking pro: My personal journey to conquering my very first conference.
Attending a conference can be an overwhelming experience, especially if it's your first one. I was no exception to this. I remember feeling nervous and unsure about what to expect when I registered for my first Workday Rising conference. Little did I know that this experience would change my perspective and transform me into a confident networking pro.
I arrived at the conference with my Kognitiv family with me but still feeling out of place and unsure of myself. But as soon as I entered the crowd, I realized I was not alone. Everyone was there to learn, share ideas, and make connections. I started small by introducing myself to a few people and engaging in small talk. I quickly realized that everyone was in the same boat. We were all there to learn, network, and make new connections.
The conference program was packed with interesting sessions, speakers, and vendor booths. However, I found that the most exciting and rewarding area was the Braindate area. Braindates are opportunities that enable individuals to engage in one-on-one or small group interactions. Essentially, you share the topic you wish to discuss, and someone else who shares your interest connects with you to learn more about your expertise. This is where all the excitement was for me. I was able to meet many people, share ideas, and help collaborate on issues that other users were having. It was the most rewarding part of the entire conference for me.
At the end of the first day, I was exhausted but exhilarated. I met so many people, learned new things, and made valuable connections. The second day was even better. I felt more confident and comfortable striking up conversations with strangers. By the third day, things were starting to wind down, but I still made even more connections. By the end of the conference, I had exchanged information with several attendees, connected with them on LinkedIn, and even made plans to meet up with some of them in the future.
Looking back, I realized that attending that conference was one of the best decisions I ever made. It gave me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, learn new things, and connect with like-minded individuals. It also taught me the importance of networking and building relationships in both personal and professional settings.
So, if you're feeling nervous about attending your first Workday Rising conference, don't worry. Just remember that everyone is there for the same reason, and you have nothing to lose by introducing yourself and engaging in conversation. Who knows, you might meet your next business partner, mentor, or friend.
