About Susan D.

Key experience
Took the leap from Workday Client to Workday Consultant!
In my early professional career I was an Executive Assistant and then started to dabble in Project Management. That made me dip my toes into systems (Peoplesoft & Salesforce) and I discovered I had a knack for security and system configuration. I was good at doing the "IT Stuff" without the programming knowledge. When my company transitioned from Peoplesoft to Workday for HR I became part of our internal HR Systems team and have never looked back! I then moved on to help to other companies implement Workday expanding my knowledge along the way. I am a self professed Workday Geek and discovered my Tribe here at Kognitiv, Inc. and am thrilled to be focused 100% on Workday all day, every day.
Current position
Senior Business Consultant (Absence/Time Tracking/HCM)
As a Senor Business Consultant, I am required to be an expert in a few different areas of Workday. However because of my extensive Workday background on the client side, I can support most Workday modules. I implement and support solutions for clients on a global scale, focusing on Time Tracking & Absence, but also provide client support for Security, Learning, HCM, Reporting, Compensation and Benefits. Not only do I provide clients with a solution, I discuss best practices, and "teach them to fish" I love to be able to share my Workday knowledge with Workday clients so they don't just get a fix to their problem, but knowledge to support themselves. As a Senior Business Consultant I am the lead on implementation projects, act as an advisor to other teams and work on break/fix or small configuration tickets from clients. Outside of Workday I act as a mentor for one of our newly hired Associate Business Consultants.
Main motivation
I learn something new EVERY day.
There has not been one day since I started working at Kognitiv that I have not learned something new about Workday. Every day offers fresh challenges and learning opportunities. One great thing about Kognitiv is that, although consultants have focus areas, we can work on any areas that we want, knowing that we have a wealth of knowledge and experience at our fingertips. I have never worked with a smarter and more knowledgeable group of individuals in my career. The learning opportunities are endless and that provides a very fulfilling career for me. I also love the fact that my Manager and Kognitiv leadership understand my career aspirations, and offer a career path on the individual contributor level knowing not everyone wants to be a manager some day.
Top advice
Never stop learning.
Kognitiv offers endless learning possibilities. We learn from our clients, we learn from our colleagues and we learn from our leadership. From internally developed Workday training, Slack Channels of experts, Office Hours to address specific challenges to brown bag sessions, there are always growth and learning opportunities. I have never felt uncomfortable asking a question or asking for support. There is always someone willing and able to step up.
Greatest achievement
Hitting the ground running!
I'm still fairly new to Kognitiv, but in my first week I took over an Advanced Compensation cycle for a consultant who was departing. I was able to step in and provide seamless support to the client (with the entire company at my disposal for help along the way) and the client had NO idea that it was my first week on the job. From new hire to supporting an Advanced Comp cycle for a client with over 3,000 employees in the merit cycle in just one week!! That's a pretty big achievement.
