Hi there!
In my current role as Project Manager I've found the following to be challenging experiences I'm learning a lot from:
-managing timelines and deadlines. A PM needs to manage their team in ensuring they ALL meet the deadline, so it's no longer simply managing one person, it's often multiple. And we need to report back to the client's project team on if those deadlines are being met, coordinating with the client team's work as well.
-working with different skillsets and personality types. A PM is a manager, even though you're not your project team's direct leader. You are the person they report to and you're responsible for ensuring they have what they need yet are getting YOU what you need for the overall project. It can be challenging working with people you don't know well or don't work in the same way.
-scheduling! It seems simple but scheduling meetings with internal and external project team members becomes a regular activity. Luckily technology makes it easier than ever, but it is definitely something that is challenging!
These challenges help grow a person's organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
